Kip Brar is a business lawyer. He has broad depth of experience handling disputes, corporate transactional work, and emergency response.
While growing up in BigLaw, Kip resisted the pressures to compartmentalize his practice and, as a result, he has developed a unique skillset. Kip has not only first-chaired numerous trials but has also served as lead-counsel in a number of M&A transactions.
Kip represents clients in the healthcare, energy, maritime, and manufacturing industries, and routinely serves in a general counsel role for his clients advising on day-to-day legal issues.
Corporate Expertise
Kip has handled a variety of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, debt financing, roll-ups and other corporate transactions. He also handles day-to-day commercial contract drafting and negotiations, including master service agreements, purchase agreements, terms and conditions, transportation agreements, and complex indemnity agreements.
Kip has served as lead-counsel in M&A deals valued in excess of $800 million and as a key team member in deals valued over $2 billion.
Kip is developing a reputation for representing healthcare clients, such as hospitals, physician practice groups, and surgery centers, that sell assets or securities to private equity groups.
He is the perfect match for entrepreneurial physicians and physician groups.
Litigation Experience
Kip has litigated nearly every type of commercial dispute including those involving contracts, business divorces, misappropriation of trade secrets, non-competes, Qui-Tam, reimbursements, earn-outs, casualties, product defects, industrial incidents, construction, vessel-construction, damage to or loss of offshore drilling units, down-hole drilling failures, environmental contamination, vessel collisions/allisions, bunker fuel, and vessel arrests and attachments.
Kip has also defended clients in a variety of personal injury claims, including those involving premises defects, product defects, industrial accidents and explosions, platform injuries, and Jones Act claims.
In addition to first-chair trial and arbitration experience, Kip has also handled appeals throughout the Texas appellate courts and has argued to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Emergency Response and Government Investigations
Kip is often his client’s first call during a time of crisis. Kip is routinely depended on to serve as a client’s “legal boots-on-the-ground” to respond to industrial or marine accidents, assist during post-incident investigations, including OSHA or other governmental investigations, and lead root-cause analyses.
Kip attended Baylor Law School on the full-tuition Leon Jaworski Scholarship for Outstanding Advocates. While in law school, Kip served as the Notes & Comments Editor of the Baylor Law Review, won the Strasburger & Price Moot Court competition, was named to the Order of Barristers, and competed on the national moot court team.
Kip graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with special honors. He served as the President of the Cross-Examination Debate Team, competed at the highest levels of collegiate debate, and received a prestigious first-round bid to the National Debate Tournament (NDT), awarded to the country’s top-16 debate duos.
Kip has been named as a Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star by Thomson Reuters from 2017-2021.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association (FBA), Southern District of Texas Chapter since 2015.
